The fi lm depicts the everyday life of an internship for apprentices in a typical small-town boarding school in Socialist Czechoslovakia. Jana rebels against the rigid structures of the institution much to the admiration of the majority of the girls. She does not want to become a “model worker”: she has a boyfriend and wants to see him as much as she can and dance rock-and-roll and she despises the supervisor’s hypocrisy. The teachers try in vain to make the girl conform to the dominant social models: the girl begins to neglect her work and refuses to speak.
