Despite the fact that human life does not depend on it, why do cultures worldwide listen to and make music? For Spanish poet Federico García Lorca, the answer lies in a supernatural spirit called Duende, a transformative force that enters the musician and audience alike. Guided by the spirit of Lorca and the figure of British musician Andy Curtis (dressed as the somnambulist from the German Expressionist classic The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari), Echo of Everything sets out to understand this important but non-essential element of life. Inspired by his own recovery from a period of existential crisis in his life, filmmaker Cam Christansen focuses on the healing and energizing power of music. Travelling from Europe to Africa to North America, the film takes viewers on a visual, aural, and philosophical journey while simultaneously constructing a heartfelt ode to one of the great joys of life.
