“A day without labor is a day without food.” –Master Baizhang, Tang dynasty 　　A cinematic tour through a remote mountain Chan/Zen Buddhist monastery in southern China, guided by the community’s Head Cook as he explains the traditional cultivation, distribution and ritual offering of food in this Buddhist community. We follow the gathering of local fuels and farmed vegetables, and witness how living members of this community work in harmony with elements of their physical environment in a centuries old lineage of meditation in action. Burger’s camera itself is a contemplative gateway into the beauty and peace at the heart of the practice.
